As apart of the TOS Homeschool Crew, I get some really great products sent to me for testing. The soap sampler I received from Virginia Soaps and Scents was absolutely one of my favorites so far.
I’m thrilled to tell you about this company – not just their wonderful products. Virginia Soaps and Scents (VSS) is a home-based business run by a homeschool family who, at one time in their schooling history, decided to make soap as a school project. Lo and behold, they had no idea this school project would lead them down the path of a home-based business, teaching them many more things than just how to make soap!
I love love love these stories! Here is a family learning, living, earning together. They started this journey as a family and have reaped the rewards of togetherness for it. This is a business I am so eager to support!
As for the products… well they really are good quality. I can only think this is the result of personal care and attention to each and every item that is sold. The soap sampler I received contained wonderful mini-size bars that lasted as long as one of my regular size store bought bars! And they smelled heavenly! I particularly liked the oatmeal, milk and honey bar. It was delightful. = )
Another item in the sampler was the shampoo bar. Ever used one of those? I had never even heard of them! I’ve heard of making your own shampoo but not a bar. Well, I tried the bar and my hair did not take very well to it. I have a fairly oily noggin and anything with even a hint of conditioner can make me look like a greaseball. The shampoo bar was lovely to lather up and it felt nice going on but I’m just too oily. My hair looked dirtier than before I washed it. Now. Having said all that, I have heard that there is a bit of a transition period when switching from a store bought shampoo to a handmade variety. I didn’t last that long though. lol You may have better luck with such a product if you’re not that oily.
I also received a sample of the laundry soap kit. Now, I’ve been making my own laundry soap for a while so I’m pretty comfortable with what to add and how to measure. This kit would be great for someone who’s just starting out making their own soap – kinda takes all the guessing out of it – or for someone who doesn’t want to take the time to grate their own soap and everything else involved in making laundry soap. You still have the benefits of pure soap without all the store bought nasties.
