Beans finished his “The Story About Ping” lapbook this week. This is an adorable book about a little duck who decides that spending the night alone is better than receiving a swat on the back. Of course, you can guess the outcome of his situation and the happiness that is restored when Ping finds his way back home. I encourage anyone with a Pre-k or kindergartener to read this book to their child. And if you have a mind to, why not create your own Ping lapbook. I got mine from In the Hands of a Child – the ebook version. They also offer their lapbooks in cd and spiral bound form.
Here are some highlights of the Ping lapbook:
This is the entire thing all opened up. We would read the book and then work on a couple of the activities each day.
HoaC creates THE BEST lapbooks. This little foldable is a perfect example of the creativity and thoughtfulness they put into making lapbooks. Here you can see Ping is attached with a brad allowing you to make him ‘dive’ for his dinner.
Beans learned alot about the Yangtze river from this lapbook – we listed the common local names in this banner foldable.
While I read the story – somedays Beans would sit with me and follow along and other times he would color on the projects such as this boat that houses Ping & his family.
Currently we are reading “The House at Pooh Corner” and I have no plans to start a lapbook for it. But pretty soon we will read “My Father’s Dragon” and I am definitely planning for this one! We will probably use materials from Homeschoolshare. This book is perfect for a lapbook and a hoot for a read. My oldest two loved this story.
Until then,

I have looked at lapbooks, but never tried them – and I’ve read all those books with my older two (Core K, right?). Perhaps I will be inspired next year……
The two sequels to My Father’s Dragon are wonderful, too!

I’ve hear those sequels were good from others too! I had forgotten all about them til now. I’ll have to look for them again. We DID get the Puddleby Adventures (Dr. Doolittle) but haven’t read it yet. Did you watch the Rex Harrison version of that? soooooo good. one of our favorites.
