I promised I’d show you how I made the ring pillows in the Sparkle and Spin project and I finally got around to writing it up.
This is a very simple, primitive even, way of doing this and I’m sure there are probably way better ideas on how to do it. For the supplies I had on hand and nearby, this seemed the easiest solution.
My first step was to measure out the width of my drawer and cut a piece of 12 inch paper to a width that would just fit inside. Then I bowed the paper to the height I wanted the pillows to lay making an arch that would touch the bottom of the drawer. I scored the paper for that first arch and again at the same length down the length of the paper all the way to the end.
To give the arches some support I wanted to put something under them that would also have some give. For this, I used paper towels. This is two pieces of Bounty choose-a-size paper.
Roll up the paper towel and tape it together to keep it from coming undone.
Cut the rolled up paper towel slightly smaller than the width of your paper.
This part is a little awkward so just work at it and fidget with it until it lays properly. Fold your paper around the paper towel rolls and tape them to secure. Be sure to leave the same size gap between each arch so that it will lay in the drawer properly. You can see below where I taped the leftover edge (left) all the way back to the previous arch. I had to re-tape that right side as it was too tight.
Fit it into the drawer and feel free to make any adjustments to get it to lay properly. For my drawer I needed two pieces of 12 in. paper to fill it all the way up. I just repeated the steps above with the second piece.
And here they are all in. I used the same sheet of 12×12 paper to cut both my pieces. It would have looked nicer if I’d cut the same pattern from two different sheets but I wanted to use up what I’d already cut on.
And there you have it. Nothing too complicated. Like I said, you may have to fidget with it to get it right but if you’re not too picky this will work fine. Because I’m using paper instead of fabric and foam, there isn’t a ton of give in the wedges. Don’t try to put thick rings next to thins ones as the thin ones will want to slip through the crack. So maybe there’s a minor drawback, but again, it works in a pinch!
