Week 2
“I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that hears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” –John 15:5
Day 1
“And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.” – Mark 1:35
Three things stick out here.
- alone – away from others we tend to be more vulnerable and honest
- away from distraction – full attention given to God
- first thing – a sacrifice of our first thoughts – giving over our adoration as well as our cares
Okay, this is going to be very uninteresting to you and personal to me. After much waiting on the Lord in this verse, I feel he is telling me I need to move my quiet time. Originally, my goal was to get up early and work in the living room. The problem with this is two-fold. The getting up earlier than normal and the lack of quietness in the living room. Even when kids are “quiet”, they are a distraction.
So, I think the Lord is telling me to keep all my things beside the bed and as soon as I’m awake, get in the Word. The husband is always still asleep. The kids are not around. It’s earlier and quiet. We’re going to see how this goes for a week. Again, not very exciting or interesting for you, but there it is.
Lord, thank you for giving me specific practical instructions sometimes. Give me the wisdom to hear and listen every time you speak. Amen.
