Yesterday was the first day of the new school year. Yaaaay! I just love cracking open brand new books. They’re so full of promise, adventure, learning. We started several new things yesterday. I focused mostly on the olders and started the youngers today. For them, everything is mostly the same. They are familiar enough with the routine from last year that they fell right back into it with very little fuss.
Zion and Abs began they’re Kay Arthur Bible study. This book may be just a tad much for them but I think they’ll do fine once they get going. For now it is taking them, at the least, an hour to complete the day’s lesson. Today they began marking in the observation worksheets of Titus. It’s exciting to see them really studying the Scriptures.
We began Sonlight’s Core 3 with some books about Native American history. I have a Dover coloring book about the many Native American tribes which the kids color in as I read to them.
Our most favorite new thing, by far, is the Time Travelers New World Explorers program. We’ve made spice cookies, tied knots and later this week we’ll be dehydrating fruit, creating a ship’s log, a ship and working on lapbook projects.
This week we’ll also be starting a new science curriculum I just discovered from Bright Ideas Press called Christian Kids Explore Biology. This is an answer to prayer, I just know. I was searching for a Christian science curriculum early this year when I was putting together this year’s plan. Unfortunately, I didn’t find exactly what I was looking for but thought we’d just get by with what I did find. I can’t wait to get into this program.
This year looks like it’s going to be lots of fun. Like a good book, I anticipate a year filled with promise, adventure and learning.
